《中国普通外科杂志》是国内外公开发行的国家级期刊（ISSN1005-6947/CN43-1213R），创刊于1992年3月，创刊时以《普通外科杂志》命名，1993年1月国家科委正式下文批准为《中国普通外科杂志》。文件号为（93）国科发信字015号。创刊以来一直坚持面向广大从事临床、教学、科研的普通外科工作者，以实用性为主，及时报道普外领域的新知识、新技术、临床研究及实用性临床经验。办刊宗旨是：传递学术信息，加强相互交流；提高学术水平，促进学科发展；注重临床研究，服务临床实践。

《中国普通外科杂志》目前由国家教育部主管，中南大学主办，中南大学湘雅医院承办。主编王志明教授；特邀顾问由中国科学院及工程院院士汤钊猷、吴孟超、吴咸中、郑树森、夏家辉、黄志强、黎介寿，赵玉沛等担任，顾问由30余位国内外著名普通外科专家组成；编委会成员由国内外普通外科资深专家学者100余名组成。杂志开设栏目有：国际在线·专题述评、国际在线·手术视频、述评、专家笔谈、专题研究、基础研究、临床研究、文献综述、简要论著、临床报道、误诊误治与分析、经验与教训、手术经验与技巧、国内外学术动态，病案报告。《中国普通外科杂志》已进入多个国内外重要检索系统和大型数据库，如：中文核心期刊（中文核心期刊要目总览2008，2011版）、中国科学引文数据库（CSCD）、美国化学文摘（CA），俄罗斯文摘（AJ），中国科技论文与引文数据库（中国科技论文统计源期刊），中国学术期刊综合评价数据库，中国期刊网全文数据库（CNKI），中文科技期刊数据库，中文生物医学期刊文献数据库（CMCC），万方数据-数字化期刊群，中国生物医学期刊光盘版等，总被引频次及影响因子已居同类期刊前列。2004年获全国高校优秀科技期刊；2005年获湖南省十佳科技期刊；2008年获第2届中国高校优秀科技期刊奖，2009年获全国高校科技期刊优秀编辑质量奖，中国核心学术期刊（RCCSE）；2010年获第3届全国高校优秀科技期刊奖；2012年获第4届全国高校优秀科技期刊奖；并在其它科技期刊评优评奖活动中多次获奖。

The Chinese Journal of General Surgery (CJGS, ISSN1005-6947/CN43-1213R), under the auspices of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, was founded in 1992 with the Central South University as sponsor and Xiangya Hospital, Central South University as the undertaking sponsor. The journal is published monthly with papers covering all respects of general surgery from authors all over the country in both print and online formats.

The journal’s editorial board and academic consultants consists of over 100 members, all of whom are eminent national and international specialists in each sub-field of general surgery, and some of whom are members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering. The structure of board members and consultants along with the support of a panel of qualified reviewers ensure the quality and high scientific standard of the published articles and the increasing popularity of the journal.

The mission of CJGS is to disseminate new concepts, innovative techniques and methods, and the latest development in the theory, practice, and basic research related to general surgery throughout the nation and the world. The journal features the section of regular monographic series that contains both clinical and laboratory-based research focusing on each specific area of general surgery in each issue. In addition to the monographic series, other sections of the journal include: editorials, opinions, expert forum, reviews, brief articles, case reports and case discussions, etc.

CJGS has come a long way in fulfillment of its mission and has become a highly prestigious journal in the field of general surgery in China. At present, CJGS has been selected as the core journal by all the four Chinese core journal evaluation systems that include Chinese Science and Technology Paper Citation Database (CSTPCD), A Guide to the Core Journals of China (GCJC), Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation (RCCSE) and Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD), and indexed in Chemical Abstracts of USA (CA), Russia Abstract Journal (AJ), Chinese Journal Full-Text Database (CJFD), Chinese Scientific and Technological Journal Database (CSTJ), Chinese Medical Current Contents (CMCC), etc. In addition, it has been granted many awards such as the Excellent University Sci-tech Periodicals (2004, 2008, 2010 and 2012), and the one of Ten Hunan Excellent Sci-tech Journals (2005), etc.
